October hackfest in Marseille

Summer is coming, and everyone will, soon, have some vacation (at least in the northen hemisphere).

It’s also the right time to decide and organise your trip to Marseille, in October.

From 10th to 14th, the “hackfest in Europe” will take place, for the 5th year in a row, in BibLibre office, 108 rue Breteuil, 13006 Marseille

This year, there will be special/new things:

  • We’ve booked a room that can welcome up to 15 person in the office just next door. It mean that more than 60 attendees can find a seat in good conditions !
  • We plan to have a Catamandu workshop. Catmandu is a tool that will be used in Koha-ElasticSearch, for more information see http://librecat.org/ . The workshop would be made by Patrick Hochstenbach & Nicolas Steenlant, authors of Catmandu.
  • We will have Owen Leonard. For those who don’t know, we owe him so much in terms of usability & design. I’m sure this hackfest will be useful to continue improving Koha. Come with your ideas, questions and suggestions !

Special hilight for librarians: I sometimes hear librarians saying “I’d like to come, but it’s a hackfest, I’m not a hacker“. Please, don’t be afraid with this term. All librarians that have joined at least once want to come again. It’s not a week for developers, it’s a week for the Koha community. Even if you have no developer skills, you’ll find ways to have fun, help, and do things that will be useful for you and for the Koha project. So don’t hesitate and join us !!!

And if you need an official invitation letter for your manager, drop me an email, I’ll send you one !

How to register ? Just drop me an email. I’ll add you to the lists of attendees and give you all necessary informations (location, hotel, public transportation, …)

PS: as usual, the hackfest is free of charge. We organize lunch because there are no restaurants large enough in the area, and we ask 15€ for each lunch (and if you’re vegetarian, let me know). And of course, there will be the legendary “cheese lunch” [on tuesday]
